Officials: Fire rekindles at Chesapeake IHOP

News

CHESAPEAKE, Va. (WAVY) — A fire rekindled at a Chesapeake IHOP one day after the building was destroyed in a massive blaze.

Lt. Tony Barakat with the Chesapeake Fire Department said Tuesday the fire was called in just before 12:30 p.m. Tuesday. Responding units found smoke and flames at the business.

Officials said no injuries were reported Tuesday, and firefighters were able to bring the fire under control. The process of putting out the flames was delayed due to the condition of the building.

More than 30 firefighters responded to the restaurant on Taylor Road early Monday morning for a fire that started after employees had closed the building and left.

The fire quickly spread throughout the building, collapsing part of the roof. Taylor Road was closed around the scene for several hours while crews worked to get the fire under control.

It was not immediately clear what caused the fire the rekindle. The building was deemed a total loss after Monday’s fire.
