HAMPTON, Va. (WAVY) — Officials say a fire that torched a car in Hampton may have been suspicious in-nature.
Hampton fire officials said in a tweet investigators responded to Freeman Drive — near a Home Depot on N. Armistead Avenue — Tuesday morning, where the car was found engulfed in flames.
The fire has since been extinguished.
An official with the Hampton Fire Marshal’s Office said the fire was behind the Home Depot — and about 100 feet off the road. Witnesses who saw the fire from the road alerted authorities just after 8:45 a.m.
The official said no one was in the car at the time, but that the fire “appears suspicious.” An investigation into the fire is ongoing.
