Officers find marijuana, guns in car during Newport News traffic stop

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) — Police found marijuana and guns after pulling a car over for a broken light in Newport News on Monday.

Newport News police said officers stopped the vehicle near Warwick Boulevard and Hickory Point Boulevard around 8:50 p.m.

Police said officers could smell marijuana coming from the vehicle.

In a search of the vehicle, officers found marijuana, several plastic bags, a scale and four firearms. One of those guns was stolen from another state, police said.

Police charged the driver, 18-year-old Jahliq Taylor, with possession with intent to distribute marijuana, driving without a license, and improper rear light.

A 17-year-old passenger was charged with receiving stolen or aiding in concealing firearm, concealed weapon and possession of firearm under 18.
