ODU men’s basketball departs for NCAA Tournament with send-off in Norfolk


NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — A send-off was held Tuesday for the Old Dominion University men’s basketball team before they left for to the NCAA Tournament.

The Monarchs, a 14th seed in the south region, will face the No. 3 seed Purdue Boilermakers in the opening round of the tournament Thursday night in Hartford, Connecticut. 

ODU (26-8) advanced to the tournament after beating Western Kentucky 62-56 in the Conference USA Tournament championship game. This is the Monarchs’ first tournament bid since 2011.

The team boarded buses on 45th Street, beside the Ted Constant Convocation Center, as crowds cheered them on.  

Tip-off for the game between ODU and Purdue (23-9) is slated for 9:50 p.m. A complete schedule of games can be found at this link.
