HARTFORD, CT (WAVY) — The Old Domininion basketball team arrived to Hartford on Tuesday afternoon as it gets ready for its NCAA Tournament showdown against Purdue.

The Monarchs, playing in their first NCAA Tournament in eight years, are the the 14-seed in the South Region while the Boilermakers come in as the 3-seed.

Purdue (23-9) received an at-large bid to the tournament and has made the Sweet 16 the last two seasons while ODU (26-8) makes the field after winning the Conference USA Tournament.

The Monarchs have experience playing against Power 5 programs, in December they upset Syracuse at the Carrier Dome.

So don’t expect coach Jeff Jones squad to be intimidated come Thursday night.

“It’s a great opportunity, Purude is an outstanding nationally known basketball program,” Jones said. “We know we facing a formidable opponent but our guys are ready for it and I think eager to take on another challenge. This is a bigger challenge but I don’t anticipate them back down from it at all.”

Purdue is favored by 13 points over Old Dominion. Tip-off is scheduled for around 9:50 on Thursday night. The game will be broadcast on TBS.
