NORFOLK (WAVY) — It may not be the hey day of the CAA days, but make no mistake, VCU and Old Dominion are still arch rivals.
Now in different conferences, VCU visits the Ted Constant Center on Wednesday for the annual match up between the two schools separated by 90 miles.
VCU has won 3 straight games in the series, so the Monarchs will be ready to snap the streak on Wednesday.
“If you need any extra motivation for this game then you should not be playing,” senior B.J. Stith said. “Ever since I came here it’s nothing but hate, I can’t stand VCU, I’m sure they can’t stand us but it makes it fun “
VCU brings a 5-1 record into tomorrow’s game while ODU sits at 3-3.
A major goal of coach Jeff Jones was for the Monarchs to get enough quality wins to be in the conversation for at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament.
The Monarchs have already suffered losses to St. Joe’s, Oregon State and Northern Iowa. Coach Jones is on no mood to talk about the post season in November.
“We can’t go through every doggone game thinking about the NCAA Tournament, Jones firmly said.
“That debate, that’s over. We don’t need to worry about it, whether we are 3-3 or 6-0, that’s a waste of time, we don’t need to mess with it.”
ODU last made the NCAA Tournament in 2011.
