DARE COUNTY, N.C. (WAVY) — The new Herbert C. Bonner Bridge over the Oregon Inlet is on-track to open by the end of 2018, officials in Dare County said in a new video.

Dare County posted a video to YouTube this week, which said that nearly 75 of the bridge’s northern approach is complete.

Officials said there will be daytime lane closures on the old span into late May — in addition to periodic closings of the navigation channel.

Crews broke ground on the parallel bridge in 2016. Officials expect the $246 million bridge to be open in the fall of 2018, with old scheduled for demolition in 2019.
