North Carolina

SAMPSON COUNTY, N.C. (WNCN) – Two people are in custody after a 10-year-old girl missing from Sampson County was found Tuesday evening, Sheriff Jimmy Thornton said.

An Amber Alert was issued Tuesday for Breanne Marie Jones. Deputies said she may have been with with two people: Jonathan Lewis Jones and Christina Renee Edge.

Around 5 p.m. Tuesday, a person identified the suspect vehicle on Harper Street in Clinton. Authorities responded to the area. Jones, the girl’s father, and Edge fled to a wooded area with the girl, the sheriff’s office said.

Deputies, along with Clinton police and the FBI, set up a perimeter. They ended up finding both suspects and the girl, who was unharmed, a news release said.

Jones was charged with injury to real property and misdemeanor child abuse. He was given a $10,000 secured bond. Edge was charged with probation violation and is being held on those charges.

The Sampson County Sheriff’s Office said the investigation is ongoing. More charges are possible. Kidnapping charges were not yet filed because the Department of Social Services did not have a non-secured custody order in place for the girl, the release said.
