BOLTON, N.C. (NBC) — A big alligator found a nice new home under a house porch in North Carolina — and he didn’t like getting evicted.
It was a tug-of-war. A wildlife officer had to call for backup to pull this 10-foot gator out from under the porch.
The woman who shot this video lives next door. She says she’s lived in the town of bolton for 20 years and this is the first time she’s seen a gator in her neighborhood.
Bolton is about 40 miles from the coast.
“We’re kind of baffled as to why a 10-foot alligator shows up in Bolton. It’s wet around there, but not to the point you would expect that type of animal to show up where it did,” said North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission Master Office Scott Pritchard. “We don’t know why it showed up. In that situation, yeah, we wanna remove that, but if you’re near water, if you’ve got ponds or you’ve got rivers or creeks around the house if you’ll give it time that gator’s gonna go where it was intended to go to begin with.”
Wildlife officials say it’s gator mating season right now and that can cause reptiles to turn up in unusual places.
