HYDE COUNTY, N.C. (WAVY) — The North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission says a man was fatally shot in an accident while duck hunting Monday in Hyde County.
The victim has been identified as Brandon Marshall of Engelhard.
Sgt. Daniel Kennedy with the NC Wildlife Resources Commission Law Enforcement Division said that the incident happened around 2:30 p.m. Monday.
Marshall was shot by a member of his party while duck hunting. Authorities said Tuesday that Marshall was hunting with his family.
He was in a duck blind with his son when he was accidentally shot in the leg. His brother, who was in a duck blind next to Marshall and his son, tried to help Marshall until NC Wildlife officers arrived on the scene.
The officers proceeded with lifesaving efforts until EMS arrived on scene.
Marshall died from his injuries before he could be taken to a hospital.
“The Wildlife Commission’s investigation has concluded that incident was [an] unforeseeable accident and that everything possible was done to save Marshall’s life,” NC Wildlife said Tuesday.
The agency continued: “Marshall was a very experienced hunter and shared a passion for hunting with his family, friends and others by guiding hunts and mentoring others with an interest in outdoor recreation. The agency requests that the media respect the privacy of the Marshall family during this difficult time. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family as they try to make sense of this accident.”
