NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) – Three people were injured in separate shooting incidents Sunday night in Norfolk, according to police.
Norfolk police said the first of the shootings happened just before 9 p.m. at a Harris Teeter in the Ghent area of the city. Officers responded to a report of gunshots heard in the area of the store on Colonial Avenue, off W. Princess Anne Road.
Moments after the call, an 18-year-old man walked into Children’s Hospital of the King’s Daughters with a gunshot wound that was not considered life-threatening.
10 On Your Side visited the grocery store Monday and found shoppers going about their daily routines.
“[Crime] is new for this area — you don’t really hear it around here in the Ghent area,” said Taylor Callis. “It’s pretty wild to hear it down here not too much down the street.”
Police said a preliminary investigation found two 18 year olds were sitting in a vehicle at the grocery store, when one of them fired a gun, striking the other. The teen who fired the gun drove to CHKD, and was later detained.
Officers responded to a second shooting just after 9 p.m. in the 900 block of Norchester Avenue. Two men were found shot at the scene.
The men told police a vehicle approached them, and suspects inside fired multiple shots. Both men were taken to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital and are expected to recover.
10 On Your Side spoke with a man living at the home with several bullet holes. He says he was inside the home when shots started going through the house. Going on to say, he said he could have been dead, but ran from the window and is not hurt.
