PORTSMOUTH (WAVY) – A packed home crowd at I.C. Norcom High School stood and cheered as their Greyhounds stormed the field after a dominate 33-13 win over Class 4 state championship contender Lake Taylor.
The Greyhounds (5-3, 4-1) hadn’t beaten the Titans (6-1, 4-1) since 2010.
Aside from Norcom’s hard-nosed defense completely shutting down a potent Lake Taylor rushing attack, the offensive, aerial assult of quarterback Jacoby Smith-to-Celon Lawrence produced 28 points.
Meanwhile on the Peninsula, in a game that usually produces tough, grind-it-out, low-scoring finals, Phoebus ran away with a 35-0 win over arch rival Hampton at Darling Stadium.
