HARRISONBURG, Va. (WRIC) — Everyone was safely evacuated from a massive fire at an apartment complex near James Madison University in Harrisonburg on Thursday.
WHSV reports the fire broke out at the Southview apartment complex and that the building was fully involved with flames. The entire building, and other surrounding units, had to be evacuated.
With the apartments used largely for student housing, James Madison University sent out an alert to students at 12:38 p.m. warning them to avoid the area.
Crews were called in from several neighboring jurisdictions to assist in battling the flames. Investigators speculate it may have grown to a five-alarm fire.
WHSV reports that smoke could be seen across town and as far away as Cross Keys and Massanutten Mountain.
There are no reports of any injuries.
