NN police: Man in argument returns with gun, gets shot in neck

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) — A man was shot in the neck Friday night in Newport News after an argument led to an exchange of gunfire.

Police say the shooting happened just after 6 p.m. in the 400 block of Cox Landing. 

When police arrived, witnesses told officers that three men had been in a physical argument. One of the men, a 20-year-old from Newport News, then left the scene and returned later with a gun. 

He started shooting, witnesses told police, and one of the men from the earlier argument returned fire, striking the 20-year-old in the neck. 

The victim was taken to the hospital, and his injuries are believed to be non life-threatening. 

Police say the investigating is ongoing and no suspect information is available at this time. Stay with WAVY.com for developments.
