NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) — Newport News Public Schools on Wednesday released the superintendent’s budget proposal for next year.
Dr. George Parker is calling for an operating budget of more than $316 million for 2019-20 — which would be nearly $12 million more than what was approved for 2018-19.
The school district says the budget is based on Gov. Ralph Northam’s proposed budget and a $2 million increase in city revenue.
Parker’s proposal includes money for more counselors, social workers and security officers.
The spending plan also provides for new computers and security cameras.
