Newport News man runs into Wawa store for safety from robbery suspects

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) – A Newport News man is charged with several crimes in connection to an attempted robbery.

Police arrested 18-year-old Lamere Hines and charged him with attempted robbery, conspiracy to commit robbery, and attempted malicious wounding. 

Police report that around 1:45 p.m. on November 17, Hines was one of several people who approached a man outside of the Wawa on Jefferson Avenue. The 28-year-old victim told officers several suspects approached and told him they needed to check his pockets.  The victim ran into the Wawa  where he said the suspects tried to make contact with him again.  The victim told police one of the suspects threatened to stab him, but the victim was not hurt. 

Officers made contact with Hines while checking the area.  They arrested him on Saturday.
