Newport News man arrested after attempting to retrieve 4-pound box of marijuana

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) — On February 7, Newport News police responded to the 600 block of Kate’s Trace Circle for a drug violation. 

Officers were told that packages in a leasing office had a strong odor of marijuana. A man then entered the office to retrieve the packages, and he was arrested as a result. 29-year-old Gregory Carpenter had an active warrant out of Virginia Beach for possession of marijuana. 

Police received a warrant to open the packages and removed 4 pounds of marijuana.  

Mr. Carpenter was arrested and charged with marijuana possession with intent to sell and conspiracy to commit felony.
