NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — The company behind the Waterside District announced a national, multi-year partnership with the rideshare service, Lyft.
The Cordish Companies says Lyft will be the exclusive ride share partner at its developments, which includes Waterside.
“Right now we have a number of rideshare companies that are able to come into the district and while that won’t change, Lyft is receiving a front of the line privilege as part of our partnership.” said Waterside District’s Marketing Director Frank Rose.
According to Rose, there will be a reserved area for Lyft drivers to drop off and pick up patrons right in front of the main doors–even ahead of valet drop off.
“People are going to feel kind of cool when they get out of a Lyft on a cold winter night and head right inside to Waterside,” described Rose.
All the other ridesharing companies, like Uber, will have to drop off customers further down Waterside Drive, making for a longer walk.
Rose says that’s just phase one of the partnership. Phase two is still in the works.
“There’s a lot of exciting things in phase two where we may be able to do promotional items and giveaways and partnerships with those riders,” Rose said.
The new drop off signs will go up in a few weeks, just in time for one of the biggest parties of the year.
“Launching it right before our New Year’s Eve event is really our goal so we can get the most people to learn about this opportunity and educate the public because it is a safe and convenient way to get people to and from waterside,” Rose explained.
