DARE COUNTY, N.C. (WAVY) — NCDOT says a major milestone has been reached in the construction of a new bridge.
Crews have poured concrete on the last piece of road deck of the replacement Bonner Bridge.
Transportation officials tweeted a picture of the work on Tuesday.
The new Herbert C. Bonner Bridge will connect south Nags Head to Hatteras Island — and replace the old bridge that’s been heavily damaged from the elements.
Construction on the replacement bridge began in early March 2016. Officials are hoping to have the new bridge ready for traffic by mid-January.
