CHESAPEAKE, Va. (WAVY) — A Navy sailor is facing over a year in prison in an animal cruelty case.
The case against Michael Ott stems from August 2017, when someone brought in the injured dog to Acredale Animal Hospital. After vets realized what was going on, they called animal control.
Court documents reveal that officers found blood on the walls, doors, and inside closets at Ott’s apartment.
One of those dogs, a Yorkie named Gizmo, had severe trauma, according to court paperwork.
Investigators say Ott beat another dog, an Alaskan Malamute, just a week prior.
Ott served as a avionics tech in the Navy for 5 years. He was sentenced Thursday to five years each on two animal cruelty charges.
All but one year and six months of that time was suspended. Ott is also faced with a $1,120 fine.
