Video taken from Whalehead Beach in Corolla on Sunday, March 17, by Rick Blair with BeachPosts showed the whale in the surf.

Karen Clark with the Outer Banks Mammal Marine Stranding Network confirmed a necropsy was performed on the whale Sunday.

Clark said the whale, a small juvenile female humpback, may have died from some sort of entanglement.

The whale was about 2 years-old and over 27 feet long, according to Clark.
