UPDATE: The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office reported Thursday afternoon that while canvassing the neighborhood, they spoke to a man who leaving his home and showed him the video. The man immediately identified the child in the video as his son.

He told deputies that a friend of the child’s mother was supposed to drop him off at his home Wednesday evening. When his son didn’t arrive, the father assumed there was a change of plans.

The Sheriff’s Office says it appears the female suspect in the video dropped the child off at the wrong home. The woman in the video left before making sure anyone was at home or making sure the child was at the correct home.

Authorities are working with Child Protective Service to reunite the child with his family.

The investigation is ongoing.

SPRING, Tx. (NBC/WAVY) – Authorities in southeast Texas spent much of Thursday looking for a woman who abandoned a toddler on the doorstep of a home.

Security camera from Wednesday night captures the woman as she runs to the front door of a home in the city of Spring, north of Houston.

You can see her lift the child by one arm to place him on the porch before ringing the doorbell several times and knocking on the door.

Before anyone answers, she runs back to a white vehicle and takes off, leaving the 2-year-old child behind.

The homeowner says she doesn’t recognize the woman or the child.

Child Protective Services took custody of the child as authorities searched to find the mystery woman.
