BOYNTON BEACH, FL. (CNN) – A dad in New Jersey has received thousands of messages and phone calls from strangers wishing him a happy birthday. And he can thank his sons for all the unexpected well wishes.
Chris Ferry’s 62nd birthday is coming up March 16 but the calls started pouring in last week.
“Saying happy birthday. I said who’s this. He said Nick. Nick who? You don’t know me. How do you know it’s my birthday? I saw it on a billboard.”
The billboard is the work of the younger Chris Ferry and his brother Mike. They both live in Palm Beach County.
Their dad just left Palm Beach to move back to New Jersey. That’s where the billboard went up — with Ferry’s face and phone number and the message “Wish my dad happy birthday, love your sons.”
Within minutes, their dad got the first text saying happy birthday. Since then, the texts and calls have been nonstop. Some people sing happy birthday. Others talk about their own fathers.
But the birthday wishes just keep coming.
“It was fun until this morning then I wanted to kill them, but I’m going with it. I’m having a good time. Most of the messages have been … well 2 or 3 that were not nice.”
Ferry said he plans to get his sons back.
“I would love to see him try,” replied Mike. “I just want to say I love my dad. He always puts other people first, especially me and my brother.”
The sons paid to keep the billboard up through April 6.
