MOLINO, Fla. (WAVY/WKRG) — Authorities in western Florida say they’ve found a body about 40 miles from where a Norfolk woman disappeared back in August.

The body was found in a wooded area on Saturday in the town of Molino in Escambia County, Florida, while U.S. Marshals and Santa Rosa County deputies were serving a warrant near where Florida highways 97 and 29 meet.

That location is roughly 40 miles from the spot near I-65 in Escambia County, Alabama, where authorities found Shari Saunders’ red 2010 Toyota Corolla in August. At this time, authorities haven’t identified the person’s identity.

Saunders, 67, went missing after she left Norfolk to visit family in Monroe County, Alabama, north of Mobile.

The remains have been sent to the medical examiner to identify the person and determine their cause of death. Authorities haven’t confirmed to 10 On Your Side whether the body belonged to a man or woman.
