Rare lobster shows up at Maryland seafood shop

SILVER SPRING, Md. (CNN) — An extremely rare lobster was caught in Maine and now it’s now calling a Maryland seafood shop home.

But don’t worry, she’s not for dinner.

Ocean City Seafood in Silver Spring hit the lobster lottery, days before Christmas. Shop  Owner Nicholas says, “it came up in our catch.”

Nicholas was stunned to see a calico lobster — delivered from Maine — chilling in this saltwater tank.

Research has found calicos — which have bright orange and yellow spots — come one in 30 million.

“I was confused. I was like wait a minute? We’re just a little seafood market, mom and pop shop, how is this happening?” said Nicholas.

Nicholas named the female lobster, Eve.

He said, “They couldn’t believe it. They say we need to see this. So when I showed them, they .. Mr. Bailey from New England, he was shocked. He said I need to sit down because this is crazy.”

Nicholas explains aquariums in Boston and Atlanta have also expressed interest in adopting Eve, but he said, “That’s our actual calico named eve, but she’s not for sale.”

For now, this spectacle of the sea is bringing joy to customers of all ages.

Eve’s future — a much bigger, bluer home. Nicholas said, “From a $3,000 tank to a multimillion dollar facility, I think I’ll be happy for her. I’ll go visit her one day. I hope to, i hope to see her again
