NC Rep. Murphy announces campaign for Jones’ congressional seat


GREENVILLE, N.C. (WNCT) — North Carolina Rep. Dr. Greg Murphy has announced he will run for the District 3 seat in Congress.

Murphy made the initial announcement Monday morning at the Greenville Town Common.

It was the first stop of a campaign announcement tour across Eastern North Carolina. He’ll also head to New Bern, Havelock, Morehead City and Jacksonville:

  • 10:30a.m.: Union Point Park, 210 E Front St in New Bern
  • 12:00p.m.: City Hall/Havelock Harrier Memorial, 2 Governmental Ave in Havelock
  • 1:30p.m.: Downtown Fisherman’s Memorial, 1001 Arendell St., Morehead City
  • 4:00p.m.: Courthouse Cafe, 622 Court St. Jacksonville

North Carolina’s 3rd Congressional District seat is open after the passing of longtime Congressman Walter B. Jones.

Rep. Murphy will join several other Republicans in the race including Representatives Michael Speciale and Phil Shepard, State Republican Party Vice Chairwoman, Michelle Nix, and Phil Law.

Gov. Roy Cooper has yet to set an election schedule.
