KAUAI, HI (NBC) — One Colorado man could be the unluckiest guy in the world — or the luckiest — after surviving a bear attack, only to be the victim of a shark attack.
Twenty-year-old Dylan McWilliams was bitten by a shark Thursday while on vacation in Hawaii.
McWilliams says he was several dozen yards out from the beach and by himself when felt something hit his leg. That’s when he looked down and saw a lot of blood — and the shark that he thinks is 6 or 7 feet long.
McWilliams was able to swim back to shore, and ended up with seven stitches to close up the wounds.
Of course, this isn’t McWilliams’s first dangerous brush with nature. He was teaching survival skills last summer at a camp in Colorado when a bear showed up at his campsite.
McWilliams says the bear attacked him while he was sleeping in his tent. He says hit run-in with the shark was a big surprise — especially given his history with wild animals.
This actually the 20-year-old’s third time being bitten by a wild animal. McWilliams says he was bitten by by a rattlesnake a few years ago while hiking in Utah.
Despite this history, McWilliams says he is counting the days until he can get back in the water.
