TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — Diamonds are jokingly called a girl’s best friend, but do you need to have one to propose?

Helzberg Diamond is hoping to change that mindset.

Breaking from tradition, the jewelry company is selling a $50 “Will You” ring as a proposal placeholder.

The silver band is inscribed with the words, “This is a ring, not the ring.”

It comes in a white presentation box revealing the words, “The first of many things we’ll do together,” when opened.

The idea is you and your partner will be able to pick out a ring you both like together at a later date.

Helzberg Diamond is trying to take the guesswork out of finding the perfect ring.

And don’t worry, you won’t have to shell out the dough for an extra ring.

Couples who buy the “Will You?” ring can return it to Helzberg Diamonds to pick out the real engagement ring with a discount of $200 to $400.

Could be a pretty good deal and an interesting concept to try, but the big question is, “Would you?”
