RICHMOND, Va. (WAVY/AP) — Gov. Ralph Northam issued his statement on the death of former President George H.W. Bush early Saturday morning and ordered the lowering of the United States flag.
“President George H.W. Bush led a remarkable life, marked by his devotion to his beloved wife Barbara, commitment to public service, and unwavering decency to others. May we all take a page from his book. Pam and I extend our thoughts to the Bush family during this time of loss,” says Gov. Northam
Following suit from President Donald Trumps orders, Northam has also requested that the flags of the United States of America and the Commonwealth of Virginia to be flown at half-staff. The order will be in place for the next 30 days following the passing of George H. W. Bush.
Trump ordered federal offices to be closed Wednesday to honor the former president, a proclaimed the it a national day of mourning.
The White House announced Bush will be honored with a state funeral and said President Donald Trump and first lady Melania Trump will attend a service at Washington’s National Cathedral.
