ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (WFLA) – A 17-year-old girl is dead after what police are calling an accidental shooting in St. Petersburg.
A St. Petersburg police spokeswoman says a gun “accidentally discharged” inside a car near Central Avenue and 58th Street around 2:30 a.m. Sunday.
Police say 17-year-old Destiny Loper was hit by a bullet when the gun discharged. People then drove her to the police department on Central Avenue and flagged down an officer for help.
The girl later died from her injuries. Police are not releasing her name because they are still working to notify her family members.
Police initially said no one was facing charges but have now taken a suspect, 21-year-old Jessica Perry, into custody and charged her with manslaughter.
