CONECUH COUNTY, Ala. (WAVY) — Crews spent Friday searching in Alabama for a missing Norfolk woman, according to her family.

68-year-old Shari Saunders was last seen on August 5.

Relatives say Saunders left Norfolk the day before to travel to Monroeville, Alabama, but the last they heard from her was in South Carolina.

According to WAVY’s sister station WKRG, someone spotted Saunders’ red Toyota Corolla a few days ago in a wooded area.

Amanda Reed, Saunders’ niece, says it’s about 45 minutes from the gas station where Saunders was last seen.

“It’s heartbreak. I pray no one has to go through this,” she said.

Reed says volunteers were able to join law enforcement officers on the search Friday and says the community has been helpful.

“The majority are loving and giving prayers and being kind and helpful as they can,” she said. “The majority are loving and giving prayers and being kind and helpful as they can.”

Reed says she’s asking for more volunteers to come out and help, as well as prayers.
