RICHMOND, Va. (WAVY) – Nearly two weeks have passed since news first broke involving Governor Ralph Northam’s medical yearbook page which contained controversial and racist photos.
Wednesday evening, demonstrators are calling on Governor Northam to resign.
Several groups are coming together for what they are calling a ‘Ralph Must Resign Rally.’ The protestors want him to face greater accountability.
Once called to step down by his own party, democrats muted their demands for his resignation soon after the attorney general admitted to wearing blackface in college too.
In fact, three of Virginia’s top leaders have come under fire in recent weeks.
Amidst this controversy, sexual assault allegations came to light about Lieutenant Governor Justin Fairfax. Northern Virginia democrat Patrick Hope posted late Friday night that he would file articles of impeachment for Fairfax, but pulled back days later saying “additional conversations need to take place before anything is filed.”
Lawmakers still want the women to be heard, but they need to find the right venue.
A release Wednesday from Fairfax’s spokesperson stated, “The lieutenant governor has stated repeatedly that he has never sexually assaulted anyone ever” and “has called publicly for a fair, impartial investigation.”
