LOS ANGELES (CNN) — He’s most famous for playing a vampire, but now he may be the next actor to say, “I’m Batman.”
According to Variety, Robert Pattinson is close to sealing a deal to star in the forthcoming film “The Batman.”
Pattinson is best known as portraying the pasty and brooding vampire Edward Cullen– in the “Twilight” movie series.
Some fans are already up in arms, and have even started a petition to cast someone else.
One person tweeted, “This is exactly why Marvel is better in every way.”
Batman is a character owned by rival comicbook company DC.
Other fans urged filmgoers to give Pattinson a chance, pointing to Heath Ledger’s then-controversial casting as the Joker in Christopher Nolan’s “The Dark Knight.”
Ledger’s performance ended up being almost universally praised by critics and fans, and earned his a posthumous Oscar.
Before you worry about whether you’re team Pattinson or not, Deadline is reporting “Tolkien” star Nicholas Hoult is also being considered for the role.
“The Batman” is scheduled to hit theaters in june of 2021.
