Chicago-based media company buys The Virginian-Pilot for $34M

NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — Chicago-based media company tronc has bought The Virginian-Pilot for $34 million.

tronc, which is also the parent company of the Daily Press, announced its acquisition of The Pilot from Landmark Media Enterprises, LLC Tuesday morning. 

“In order to most effectively continue its important work, The Virginian-Pilot must have the benefit of the resources of a large organization,” Rusty Friddell, EVP and general counsel of Landmark Media Enterprises, stated in a news release.

tronc owns multiple newspapers in major markets across the country, including the Chicago Tribune, Los Angeles Times and The Baltimore Sun.
