STAGECOACH, Texas (WFLA) – Investigators in Texas are trying to figure out what led up to a deadly shooting between two brothers who work in law enforcement.

Authorities say an officer with the Stagecoach Police Department shot and killed his brother, an off-duty deputy with the Harris County Sheriff’s Office.

The incident happened Friday night in Montgomery County and was initially reported as a burglary.

“We’re not going to speculate on what’s going on. We believe that there’s some type of – this isn’t a burglary. So there’s some type of domestic issue that has occurred,” said Lt. Scott Spencer with the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office. “So all of our detectives and everyone are going to be looking and investigating all evidence.”

Lt. Spencer also said the officer, a 35-year law enforcement veteran, is cooperating with detectives and is being treated for “medical conditions.”

The deputy who was killed has been identified as 57-year-old Harris County Deputy Rocky Lee, a 26-year veteran of the force.

Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said everyone at the Harris County Sheriff’s Office is heartbroken over the situation.

“Information is still somewhat fragmented and it’s still preliminary so we ourselves are trying to process it, put all the pieces together ourself so we’re going to be hurting for a long time,” Sheriff Gonzalez said. “We’re going to try to respect the process, we’re just here to offer support, and as soon as we can give an update, we will.’
