CRESCENT BEACH, Fla. (WFLA/WAVY) — It’s a common sight to see osprey and pelicans swooping into waters to snatch up a fish for a meal.
A Florida photographer happened to snap a series of photos of this common occurrence that will have you doing a double take. He took amazing photos of an osprey clutching a catfish that had a small fish in its mouth.
Professional photographer Greg Jowers has a passion for taking photos of wildlife when he’s not in the studio photographing models.
A couple weeks ago he was at Crescent Beach, which is just south of St, Augustine. He was watching ospreys feed on fish.
He snapped a series of photos of an osprey that dove in the shallow waves near the shore and then flew by Jowers.
Jowers had no idea what the photographs looked like until he got home and examined them. That’s when he saw his amazing shots of the osprey.
“Oh my gosh, he’s got a fish in a fish,” recalled Jowers.
The series of photos was taken at just the right time and show a small fish in the mouth of the catfish as the osprey clutches the catfish in its talons.
The osprey must have snatched the catfish from shallow water right after the catfish snatched a smaller fish for a meal.
