MOYOCK, N.C. (WAVY) — A restaurant in Moyock suffered significant damage following a Sunday night fire.

Fire officials say a retired deputy was passing by Sakura off Caratoke Highway when he noticed smoke coming from the front door. He called 911 after noticing what appeared to be an orange glow inside.

The Moyock Fire Department, with help from the Crawford Township Volunteer Fire Department, Currituck County Fire-EMS, and Navy Region Mid-Atlantic Fire Services, were able to extinguish the fire within 20 minutes.

Investigators believe the fire started in the kitchen area; it caused significant damage to the building. The restaurant was closed at the time of the fire and there were no injuries reported.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
