Motorcyclist killed, another injured in Hampton high-speed crash

HAMPTON, Va. (WAVY) — One motorcyclist is dead and another has injuries after both were thrown from their bikes while traveling at high speeds in Hampton, according to police. 

Hampton police say the crash happened around 6:20 p.m. on July 9 in the 300 block of Big Bethel Road. 

Both male drivers were found at the scene. One was pronounced dead, while the other was transported for the treatment of non life-threatening injuries. 

Police identified the man who died as 21-year-old Austin Powers, of Norfolk.

Police say both men were traveling at a high rate of speed when they lost control of their motorcycles and were thrown yards from the site of the original crash. 

The crash remains under investigation.
