Motorcyclist dies, car passenger medevaced after Moyock crash


MOYOCK, N.C. (WAVY) — A motorcyclist has died and a car passenger medevaced after a fiery three-vehicle crash on Caratoke Highway in the Moyock area Wednesday afternoon. 

The crash happened just after 4 p.m. in the 700 block of Caratoke Highway, and involved a motorcycle, SUV and pickup truck, Currituck emergency officials say. The motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene, while the driver of the SUV was critically injured. The driver of the pickup had minor injuries.

Nightingale helicopter took the SUV driver, and the driver of the pickup was taken to Chesapeake Regional via ground ambulance. 

Firefighters from Moyock and Crawford Township extinguished the fires on both the motorcycle and SUV.

It’s unclear what caused the crash.

North Carolina Highway Patrol identified the driver the motorcycle as 51-year-old Scott Drew, of Moyock.

The driver of the SUV, 69-year-old Samuel Solomon Jr., of  Moyock, has been charged with misdemeanor death by auto.
