NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) — A 19-year-old man driving a motorcycle was airlifted to an area hospital with life-threatening injuries after a crash at a major intersection Sunday night.
The crash happened just before 8 p.m. at Jefferson Avenue and Denbigh Boulevard, Newport News Police say.
Multiple witnesses told police the motorcyclist was driving southbound on Jefferson and did not stop for a red light at the intersection.
Police say the motorcyclist struck a Dodge Charger that was turning onto Denbigh from the northbound lanes of Jefferson. The driver of the Charger was not injured.
The motorcyclist was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash. Police say he is currently in critical condition.
The Newport News Police Department Crash Team Unit is still investigating the crash.
