Mother rushed son to hospital after Hampton shooting; Peninsula riddled by gunfire over weekend


HAMPTON, Va. (WAVY) — Lynn Willis remembers the sound of gunshots flying into her home early Sunday morning.

“I hear about nine shots in front of my house,” said mother Lynn Willis.

She says she was OK, but her 18-year-old son was hit.

“I just ran, so when I ran out the door, I didn’t see anybody. But my son came running down and was like, ‘I’m shot, I’m shot’. I shot out, no shoes, no nothing, we went straight to the hospital,” said Willis.

She says it’s scary to see the bullet holes in her car, and on the side of her home.

Police are still looking for the shooter.

Hampton Police were busy dealing with other shootings too this weekend. 

There were three other shootings in Hampton this weekend. 

Police say a New Jersey man was shot and killed Saturday near Shell Road and Green Lawn Avenue.

There was a shooting near Shell Road and Seminole Road on Sunday. 

Hampton police say that victim has life-threatening injuries. 

Police also arrested Anthony Leon Bernard in the latest shooting that happened on Sunday afternoon on Worstead Avenue.

The 43-year-old victim is being treated for his injuries. 

Meanwhile in Newport News, Police Chief Steve Drew was on Facebook Live on Monday and answered questions about a double shooting that happened in his city. 

“I got an update on both victims both are considered not life-threatening,” said Newport News Police Chief Steve Drew.
