Missing 10-year-old Norfolk girl found safe, police say

NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — A 10-year-old girl who went missing in Norfolk Monday morning has been found safe, police say.

Norfolk Police said in a news release Janyasia Edmonds had been last seen at her home in the 2500 block of E. Virginia Beach Boulevard around 6:45 a.m., when she was getting ready for school.

Police said Edmonds attends Richard Bowling Elementary, but did not return home from school Monday afternoon. 

In a tweet on Tuesday, police said Janyasia Edmonds was found safe.

It was initally reported detectives believed Edmonds could have been with her mother, Shamiaha Edmonds, but a police spokesperson later confirmed that was not the case.
