NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — The aircraft carrier USS John C. Stennis is scheduled to arrive in Norfolk this week, along with nearly 4,500 Sailors from Carrier Strike Group 3.
U.S. Navy officials said the Stennis will arrive at Naval Station Norfolk on Thursday, May 16, to prepare for a mid-life overhaul at Newport News Shipbuilding.
The Stennis, which is the strike group’s flagship, is the only ship heading to Norfolk this week. Its arrival is part of a swap with the USS Abraham Lincoln, which changed its homeport to San Diego.
Other ships in the strike group either returned to their homeports during this recent deployment — or will do so following the deployment.
