NORFOLK (WAVY) – A pair of state title contenders squared off in a battle for Norfolk on Tuesday evening, with Maury High School outlasting rival Granby 2-1. It was the first win for the Comets over their cross-town rival since 2014.
Maury’s win also snaps Granby’s 11-game win streak.
Maury, the top-ranked team in Class 5, got a stellar effort from ace pitcher Patrick Rogan, who allowed just four hits and struck out three in a complete seven innings of work.
Offense was hard to come by, but the Commodores did just enough with an RBI-double from Kennedy Jones and a bases-loaded walk.
