VIRGINIA BEACH (WAVY) – Quiet days are few and far between for Mark Williams. One one hand, he’s the 7-foot star center at Norfolk Academy.
On the other hand, he’s one of the most sought-after recruits in the country. Then again, he doesn’t mind the attention. In fact, “The attention is nice to have at this point,” said Williams, who’s wrapping up his junior season as a Bulldog.
Last Summer, Williams was invited to the NBA Top 100 camp in Charlottesville, where he received first-hand instruction from some of the NBA’s best. Lakers guard Rajon Rondo was a coach at that camp.
Last week, Williams eclipsed 1,000 career points, and still has the rest of this year, and his senior season to play out. “I think he’s going to keep going,” said Norfolk Academy head coach Eric Acra.
“He’s already got over 600 rebounds. So, he could be a…1,500 (points) – 1,000 (rebound) guy when it’s all said and done.”
For now, he’s enjoying being courted by the likes of Mike Krzyzewski, Roy Williams, Tony Bennett, and just about every other high-profile coach. But the question everyone keeps asking, where will he land?
“Sooner rather than later, I’m going to start to cut the list (of potential schools) down a little bit,” said Williams.
He says he plans on announcing his decision either in late-Fall or early-Winter of next season, and says every offer is still on the table.
