Man transported to hospital after Norfolk house fire

NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) – Norfolk firefighters responded to a residential fire on Monday. 

Officials say they responded to a residential structure fire in the 2500 block of Ballentine Boulevard at 1:17 p.m.. Investigators said the fire started on the second floor and advanced into the attic. The fire was marked under control at 1:45 p.m.  

A man that is wheelchair bound was rescued from the first floor of the home and transported to Sentara Leigh Hospital for breathing difficulty. His wife did not require any treatment. No other injuries were reported.

The American Cross was called to assist the occupants and their dog. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
