Man to serve 35 years in 2014 abduction, carjacking

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — A man who admitted to abducting and carjacking a woman will spend 35 years in prison.

A Virginia Beach judge sentenced James Pree Jr. Monday to Pree to 158 years in prison with 123 years suspended, leaving 35 years to serve. Pree pleaded guilty to several charges in January.

Virginia Beach Police say Pree forced a young woman into the passenger seat of her car at the Holland Plaza Shopping Center in 2014.

The Office of the Virginia Beach Commonwealth’s Attorney said Pree pushed her inside the car and told her not to fight because he had a gun and would shoot her.

Prosecutors said he punched her repeatedly in the face and head, and strangled her to the point of unconsciousness.

Pree forced her to withdraw money from an ATM.

He then drove to a secluded parking lot, left her tied up in the car and took off.
