Man struck by vehicle at Currituck County Welcome Center has serious injuries

MOYOCK, N.C. (WAVY) – A man was taken to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital after being hit by a vehicle early Thursday morning in the parking lot of the Currituck County Welcome Center.

According to Currituck Fire-EMS officials, the incident happened just after 5 a.m. at the center located at 106 Caratoke Highway in Moyock. 

At the scene, emergency crews found a 54-year-old male with severe, life-threatening injuries. He was taken by ambulance to Norfolk General’s trauma center. 

Officials say the driver told them the man had been lying on the ground, and she drove over him without realizing. 

The North Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating the case.
