NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — A suspect was shot in the hand when he attempted to rob two adults on Friday.

Norfolk Police say they were dispatched to the 1100 block of Bland Street just before 6:30 p.m. night for an attempted robbery.

Rashaad B. Spencer, 43, reportedly approached two adults and demanded money. After hitting one of the adults on their head, police say the victim fought back.

At some point during the struggle, Spencer was shot in the hand. Police say the man who fought off the suspect was taken to Bon Secours-DePaul Medical Center and is expected to recover from a minor injury.

Spencer ended up in the hospital as well. He arrived at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital for his hand injury, where he was later arrested, according to police.

He is charged with attempted robbery, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony and malicious wounding. Once Spencer is released from the hospital, police say they will take him to Norfolk City Jail.
