Man shot after he refused to get out of his car, Portsmouth police say

PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) — Police say someone shot a man early Thursday morning after he refused to get out of his car at an apartment complex near Turnpike Road.

Portsmouth police say dispatchers received an emergency call for the shooting around 4:40 a.m. It happened in the area of Founders Way and Patriot Way. 

When police arrived on the scene, they found a man suffering from a gunshot wound to his lower body. He was transported to a local hospital for treatment, but police say his injuries are not considered life-threatening. 

The investigation is ongoing and no arrests have been made.

Witnesses at the Hamilton Place Apartments tell 10 On Your Side they heard multiple gunshots around 4:30 a.m. Witnesses also said they saw police tow away a gray car.
